about

"Grornhof" is the debut full-length from Groghof.

This album tells the story of deformed monstrous creature who has lived alone in the ruins of an abandoned castle somewhere in Europe for over 1,000 years. Not far from the castle is a peaceful medieval town. No living townsfolk have ever seen the creature, who lives in total isolation, but generations ago there were a few encounters and legends continue to circulate. The castle ruins are considered cursed and are shunned, and travelers consider the town itself to be under a shadow and avoid it.

In the year 1382, a traveler from abroad, on his way across the continent to seek adventure, happens on the town and seeks lodging there. The townsfolk, wary of outsiders, are not kind to him, so he cheerfully sets up camp in the castle ruins. In the night, he is awakened by the sound of distant music elsewhere in the ruins, and goes to investigate. He encounters the creature, who wonders if this stranger has come to befriend him and end his isolation.

For a moment, the creature is hopeful and, dare I say, happy.

But the traveler, horrified by the creature's hideous appearance, runs from the castle as the creature tries to detain him, barely escaping. He escapes to the town and describes his encounter to the townsfolk, who despair anew of their fate and the dark shadow that hangs over them.

Meanwhile, back in the castle, the creature realizes that it is truly his fate to be alone forever, and plays a mournful tune before ceasing to restlessly roam the ruins.
